For those who might be unfamiliar with or new to the term, FIPS stands for Federal Information Processing Standards. Conceived by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST’s) Computer Security Division, FIPS is a benchmark in data security and computer system standards, and organizations must align with these standards as mandated in the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002 (FISMA).
